The Baseball Memorabilia Cards |

My husband likes to garage sale. To his delight we live an area where there are sales most weekends. It seems that most times we head out to run errands we run across a garage sale or two. You know what they say; "One man's trash is another man's treasure."
One weekend we hit the estate of an elderly gentleman who had recently passed away. He was an avid sports fan, made apparent by all the pro sports memorabilia on sale throughout the house. His widow was there and very proud to discuss the acquisition of each and every piece of memorabilia collectables. They had done a bunch of traveling to follow their favorite sports. She had recited vivid stories about their adventures together.
I enjoyed her tales as much as the memorabilia collectables! As she and I sat chatting my husband stumbled across two yellowed boxes full of baseball memorabilia cards. He carefully opened the boxes and peered inside. I think I heard him gasp. The widow did not take notice if she heard but gleefully shared a story about how she and her beloved husband acquired all that baseball memorabilia throughout the years. My husband was sold.
We still have those cards, some displayed in a glass case with other baseball memorabilia. I think of that widow and her stories every time I walk by it! |
